HOW CHARLOTTE VERMINCK MADE IT TO BEVERLY HILLS WITH HER SELF-MADE FILM
Have you ever thought someone from Knokke-Heist could just appear on a Hollywood screen? Charlotte Verminck did it. And how!
FROM THE HEISTLAAN TO THE RED CARPET
Charlotte is only 25, and yet last week she lived a dream many only dare to imagine. Her short film Mind of Thoughts premiered at the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Yes, that’s right: in Hollywood. The film was screened at the world-famous TCL Chinese 6 Theatres—you know, where stars like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie once had their premieres.
DID IT ALL HERSELF, FROM IDEA TO FINAL EDIT
Charlotte did something almost no one does: she wrote, directed, produced, and edited the entire film herself. Just picture that. Days and nights working on one story, doubting, rewriting, cutting and pasting visuals… And then, suddenly, you’re sitting in a theater with people from all over the world watching your work.
ON AN ADVENTURE TO LOS ANGELES TOGETHER
She wasn’t alone. Brienne Mizell, Berthe Tanwo Njole, and Wytze Janssens - three actors from her film - traveled with her to Los Angeles. They walked the red carpet, spoke with other filmmakers, and fully soaked up the moment. “It felt like a crowning achievement,” Charlotte said.
During the chic gala at the Beverly Hilton - where the Golden Globes are also held - a clip from her film was even shown. “When I saw my footage appear on that screen, I got goosebumps,” she said.
BIG THEMES, TOLD INTIMATELY
The film Mind of Thoughts deals with mental health, self-doubt, and the power of your own thoughts. No heavy-handedness, just honest and relatable. It’s the kind of film that makes you go: “Yes, I feel that too sometimes.”
That’s exactly what makes it so powerful.
A BELGIAN SPIRIT IN A GLOBAL FILM
Charlotte started editing at just ten years old. She went to school in Knokke-Heist, attending Sint-Jozeflyceum and the Sint-Bernardusinstituut.
At seventeen, she became Creative Director for Ozark Henry. Later, she worked in Los Angeles at a well-known production company, where she learned what it takes to enter the real world of filmmaking.
Yet she stayed true to her roots. Mind of Thoughts received support from local artists and MAAK – Open House for the Arts. Because of this, the film still feels a little like Knokke-Heist - even if it was screened in Hollywood.
AND SHE’S GOING EVEN FURTHER…
On May 2, her film will be shown again - this time at the Regal LA Live cinema in Downtown Los Angeles, as part of the Beyond Hollywood International Film Festival. After that, the film travels on to New York and even France. It’s getting picked up everywhere. Not bad, right?
Charlotte herself says she hopes her story inspires others: “You don’t need a big studio or million-dollar budget. With dedication, creativity, and a strong idea, you can reach the world,” she says.
WHAT WILL YOU DO WITH YOUR IDEA?
Charlotte started small. Just in Knokke-Heist. With a laptop.
Maybe you have an idea in your head that’s bigger than you think?
So what’s stopping you?
