KNOKKE – 25-year-old Charlotte Verminck from Knokke-Heist recently experienced something extraordinary: her short film Mind of Thoughts had its international premiere at the 25th Beverly Hills Film Festival in Hollywood. The screening took place at the iconic TCL Chinese 6 Theatres, a venue steeped in film history.
Charlotte directed, wrote, produced, and edited the film entirely on her own. The film explores themes such as mental health, self-doubt, and the impact of thoughts, touching on universal feelings that resonate with many people.

Together with talented cast members Brienne Mizell, Berthe Tanwo Njole, and Wytze Janssens, Charlotte traveled to Los Angeles to represent the project. For all of them, it was an unforgettable highlight, an experience that felt like the reward for months of intense work.
“It was incredible to be able to screen our film in Hollywood,” Charlotte told the newsletter of her hometown. “We stood there with a project that we made with so much love and dedication, and suddenly we were among filmmakers from all over the world. That remains hard to grasp, especially in such an iconic venue where so many of my favorite filmmakers over the years have also had their premieres.”
As the cherry on top, a fragment of Mind of Thoughts was also screened on Sunday, April 6, 2025, during the exclusive gala at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom, the same venue where the Golden Globe Awards and the Oscar Luncheon are held annually.
“That moment, when our footage appeared on that screen, was such a tremendous honor. For a moment, we felt part of something bigger,” Charlotte said.

With Determination and Vision
In just a few days, Charlotte will return to Los Angeles, where the film will be screened once again - this time at the renowned Regal LA Live cinema, as part of the Beyond Hollywood International Film Festival (May 2). This festival, which is gaining more international attention each year, is known for its focus on independent cinema and offers a high-quality platform for promising filmmakers in the heart of Downtown LA.
After that, the film will travel in May to the East Coast of the United States, for an official selection in New York, followed by a screening in Reims (France)during the Red Movie Awards.
Charlotte hopes her journey inspires other young creatives from the region to follow their own voice: “I grew up in Knokke-Heist, and it remains unbelievable that from here, with determination and vision, you can create something that reaches all the way to the other side of the world,” she said in the Knokke-Heist newsletter.
