KNOKKE-HEIST / BRUGES – It’s her first real film, and Charlotte Verminck (25) from Knokke-Heist is already making big waves. Her short film Mind of Thoughts was selected for the Beverly Hills Film Festival (BHFF) in Hollywood. “It’s amazing that I could count on the talent and passion from Knokke-Heist,” says Charlotte.

For a long time, she searched for the perfect set for her short film Mind of Thoughts. After some negotiations, she finally secured the Grand Hotel Casselbergh in the heart of Bruges. The prestigious hotel normally doesn’t allow filming, but made an exception for the young filmmaker from Knokke-Heist.

The short film carries a strong social message: it’s about the impact our thoughts have on our daily lives. “The film delivers an important message on mental health issues,” Charlotte said during filming. “That’s why the hotel management decided to make the location available for several important scenes.”

“This project was made possible by the place where I grew up. The support I received from Knokke-Heist means a great deal.” — Charlotte Verminck, Filmmaker

Collaboration

Charlotte and her team had just one day to film in the hotel, and they succeeded in their mission. What’s more: the film is now officially selected for the Beverly Hills Film Festival. Charlotte not only directed the film but also produced and edited it herself.

On Friday, April 4, the film will be screened at the TCL Chinese 6 Theatres. And even though it’s an international debut, the roots clearly lie in West Flanders. Charlotte collaborated closely with choreographer Rebecca De Kempe. The two women were classmates for several years in Knokke-Heist.

Nominations

“That my very first film is premiering in Hollywood is an incredible honor,” says driving force Charlotte. “But just as special is the support from my hometown and the creative spirits in Knokke-Heist. This project was made possible by the place where I grew up. The support I received from Knokke-Heist means so much. Making a film is a collaboration, and it’s fantastic that I could count on the talent and passion of this community.”

The Awards Gala takes place on Sunday, April 6 at the Beverly Hilton International Ballroom, the legendary venue of the Golden Globes and the Oscars Luncheon.

In addition to her selection for the Beverly Hills Film Festival, Charlotte Verminck is also nominated for Best Debut Director at the Red Movie Awardsin Reims, France.
